From the very beginning of St. Demetrius parish, a Church School was operating Sundays after the Holy Liturgy. Its aim was to teach and preserve Serbian heritage, its language, history, customs and Orthodox traditions. It started within the Circle of Serbian Sisters, but soon it went on its own.During the following decades it operated with various degrees of success, until it ceased to exist.
With God’s help and the goodwill of all, School resumed its activities in 2008. The aims of the School remain the same, that is, to be a place of learning and companionship for our young children. They regularly attend the Holy Liturgy and partake of the Holy Eucharist on Sundays. The students perform at Church celebrations, as well as participating at Children Gatherings in Transfiguration Monastery in Milton.
The school premises were completely renovated and adapted to school needs in 2014, providing excellent surroundings for a learning experience. Mrs. Vanja Vasic, along with Mrs.Olga Riznic, Tanja Samardjic and Mrs. Tanja Brankovic form a dedicated teaching staff intent on instilling Serbian heritage values in our multicultural society. A children’s playground is being developed on the newly renovated church grounds.
The School’s Slava St. Sava is celebrated with an extensive program featuring all children along with a very well attended banquet.
“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them, for such is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt. 19:14)
